3rd December 2018 was an odd day for Team Respect the Woman Initiatives – RTWI. Our car broke down while we were on duty. We had a lot of places to go and events to cover.

Efforts to get the car functional proved abortive besides the dark clouds were busy gathering.

At a time it became obvious that we must seek the services of a public transport system.

The first bus pulled out of the deal but then came this second bus.

The pulling over of this second bus was heart melting. Team RTWI observed some passengers saying, “This man don’t hit me with that thing”.

Team RTWI cared less about those talks because we had a deal to close somewhere. We entered the Bus and hit the road.

The Team Lead RTWI for that day’s deal now turned to the driver to reconfirm price, route and negotiate a possible comeback logistics.

It was then that we observed that the driver whom all the passenger thought was a man was actually a Woman.

The shout from the Team Lead of RTWI attracted other passenger’s attention and most of them were thrilled. If not for anything, they saw a Woman that drives the way men drive

The team lead of RTWI got interested because this is a Job on the go hence the topic Women Empowerment defined by Chacha the Female Bus Driver.

Chacha driving sense actually thrilled us but what thrilled us the more is her reason for driving that evening.

Below is her story on Women Empowerment defined by Chacha the Female Bus Driver.

THE STORY

TEAM LEAD RTWI: – Whoa I am marveled at seeing you on the steering. I the fact that you are the one driving us sends wave of excitement up my wave. It is not that women don’t drive but this is a job men do.

FEMALE BUS DRIVER: – Thank you.

TEAM LEAD RTWI: – Please what is your name.

FEMALE BUS DRIVER: – Chacha

TEAM LEAD RTWI: – Your driving skill is something else Chacha. I thought it was a man driving.

CHACHA: – {Laughs} You are not the first to say it.

TEAM LEAD RTWI: – Chacha, there is always a reason for everything. Please share with me the reason for doing this considering that you are the first female commercial Bus Driver I am seeing in the town.

CHACHA: – {Laughs} I am tired of begging besides it limits me, my strength and my ability. I am a graduate of mechanical Engineering in Nnamdi Azikiwe University. I have served but job is not forth coming.

I have a finance who is very caring but I feel for him each time because the burden of our relationship is on him. He finances everything.

This time I want to make my hair for an important function but he does not have the money. He would have given it to me if he had besides he didn’t work today because he is sick. He too is broke.

The only alternative is to take the car to the street and raise money for my needs and his needs too.

That is the simple reason I am here tonight.
